Krista sent via email: RAGBRAI 2005

Jenna, Elizabeth and I road our bikes from the farm, two miles to a neighbor at the corner on the highway. Gene was our 'Chase' vehicle with the potluck food and beverages and chairs. We spent the day there watching the bicycle parade (More Photos). Deb had someone set up on their yard with Gelatos (an ice beverage). Many bikers were glad to stop for a rest. We also pulled the hose up and offered free water. There was also Ice water for drinking. They most enjoyed a seat and some shade. It was 92 degrees with 75% humidity. Partly cloudy. It was fun to meet people from Washington state, Oregon, Texas to Conn. Many from Iowa and other local states. I can't count how many loons came by from MN. There team all wore stuffed loon birds on their helmets. There were lots of interesting bicycles, even a unicycle. We met the guy who in biking across the states for cancer too.

Just like last July, we were hit with high winds and rain last night. I felt so bad for the thousands of Ragbrai'ers in Sheldon in tents and '100' year old school buses and Winnebegos. Sounds like a tree fell on tent and killed a guy and more were injured. I don't know all the details yet but as the day goes on I am sure there will be more news. Lots of trees and power lines down so today will be a clean up day on the farm again.
